Handpan Rhythms & Styles Masterclass

This masterclass is designed for those who want to have fun playing! Whether you are embarking on your musical journey and need practical guidance for the initial steps with the instrument, or you are a more experienced musician looking to expand your skills by stepping out of your "comfort zone" and viewing the Handpan from a fresh perspective.

In this masterclass, I focus on styles because I believe that having "style" in playing (as well as in life in general) is crucial. I introduce concepts that can be applied to both improvisation and composition, but most importantly, they will provide the support needed to play with enjoyment! The styles I will share have significantly contributed to shaping my musical personality, and I hope they can have the same effect on you.

The course also includes a section dedicated to blending foot percussion (such as a cajon, a bass drum, a tambourine, or, in my case, digital pads) with melodies and rhythms played on the Handpan, exploring the various combinations that can be created.

I will also explain the equipment used during my street performances, including microphones, mixers, amplifiers, and more. This practical aspect is intended to facilitate anyone interested in exploring this fascinating dimension of the Handpan world.

Why I created this
Handpan Masterclass?

I have created this MasterClass to provide practical tools in building one's personal musical style, exploring areas that have been most beneficial to me throughout my artistic journey. I also aim to offer new perspectives to those who feel confined in a musical routine from which they find it challenging to break free.
Furthermore, I have taken the opportunity to delve into other concepts, such as integrating foot percussion with Handpan melodies, and everything related to the equipment needed if you want to street perform.

GABRIELE POLLINA

Currently residing in Italy, I passionately pursue my career as an independent Handpan Player, continuing to play, teach, and engage in busking. Growing up in a family of musicians, my musical journey began at the age of 6 when my parents gifted me a drum set to channel my musical energy. Forming my first band at 11, I performed at a young age. After years of study and experiences in various bands, I felt the need to add harmony and melody to my musical path.

Winning the first prize unexpectedly at a Handpan gathering in Milan the following year propelled me to embark on a career as a Handpan Player. The next step was a journey to Australia and Asia, providing me with the opportunity to learn from musicians of diverse cultures.

Living in London for 5 years, I played, taught, and busked, developing a personal style that includes live-played digital percussion with my feet. Street art taught me independence in any musical context, enhancing my technical skills. I had the honor of performing at prestigious events worldwide.
